Fetal Well Being Scan

  • Best performed after 26 weeks gestation
  • Not always provided routinely within the NHS
  • To determine the growth and health of the baby
  • Measures the baby's head, abdomen and thigh bone and
    estimates its current weight
  • Assesses the placental position
  • Determines the baby's position (more relevent after
    32 weeks)
  • Measures the amount of amniotic fluid around the baby
  • Measures the blood flow (when indicated) from the
    placenta to the baby through the umbilical cord to
    assess if the placenta is working well
